I thought it might be interesting to track sale prices of vintage guitar brands that I'm interested in, as a growing reference for sellers and buyers. So I'm going to start recording those that I see... mostly from eBay. If anyone else fancies doing the same with their favorite brand or model, feel free to start a similar thread. If we get enough, I'll move them to a separate "pricing" thread...

The now long defunct 'Shergold/Hayman' company were a UK guitar manufacturing that sprung as an offshoot from the more established and well known 'Burns' company of the 1960s. Shergold Guitars were a very small London-based operation with a workforce of just four employees.

The following are British Shergold Guitars sold in UK, with brief extracts from the sellers' descriptions to give an idea of condition. I'll keep adding to the list as more are sold...

UK SALE PRICES - JANUARY 2010
Shergold Custom Masquerader Electric Guitar - £435
Black Shergold Custom Masquerader serial number 9325 - "the finish is rather crazed and the hard case - the original one - has done it's job hence the outside has a few knocks but the inside still looks surprisingly good."

Shergold double neck 12/6 string - £619
Black SHERGOLD 12/6 CUSTOM DOUBLE NECK - "a 12 string and a 6 string electric guitar in one! This particular wonderful example is believed to date from the mid-1970s and was the eighth one ever made!!! ...Some scuffing to the back panel and some considerable 'character providing' aging cracks in the lacquer finish. Comes with a VERY sturdy, custom-made aluminium flight case"

Shergold Marathon Bass 1970s - £310
"... superb example of a classic Shergold Marathon bass guitar... original stacked pots and although currently configured to mono it can be converted back to stereo using the twin outputs. ... extraordinarily low action and fast thin neck, the frets are in excellent condition ... refinished in nitrocellulose black around 5 years ago. ...the electrics are a little scratchy and there is a small amount of hum, this is probably a dry solder joint."

UK SALE PRICES - FEBRUARY 2010

Shergold Custom Masquerader - £501
Serial number: 9001... built on the 9th of September 1978 ... last production run of this model. The frets are in good condition with no flat spots and the neck is straight and true with a nice low action and high quality vintage German Schaller tuners that stay tuned. For a 32 year old guitar, it is in marvelous working condition. Various scratches and dings, but nothing major. It also shows signs of Shergolds legendary finish cracking which is nothing structural. It is simply part of the Shergolds natural aging process and adds much character to the guitar.

Really great guitar with a unique tone. I want one.
