As mentioned in another thread, I just failed to buy this British made Hayman 1010 electric guitar on eBay - I thought my max bid of £393.33 was fairly generous, but was outbid at the last second by £10! Interesting looking guitar, with sycamore body and maple neck. I wish I'd bid more (always
).
I hadn't heard of the Hayman guitars before, but they sound very interesting - especially for british collectors.
In 1969 JIM BURNS was asked by IVOR ARBITER to develop the HAYMAN instrument range. He was joined by ex VOX man BOB PEARSON. Woodwork was supplied by JACK GOLDER. When HAYMAN closed JACK GOLDER and BOB PEARSON re engineered the Hayman range as SHERGOLD.
The HAYMAN 1010 was released in the early 70's. It features three Superflux pick ups. The instrument had a vibrasonic tone chamber in the body, so it sounds good unplugged. The sycamore body is hightly grained. The strings go through the body in a similar fashion to a Tele. Quote:
The '1010' Guitar (1970-73)
Scale Length: 25½", 21 frets.
Pick-Ups: 3, 'Super Flux' type.
Controls: 1 Volume, 1 Tone, 1 3-way Select.
Finish etc.: Metallic Ivory, Burgundy or Gold;
Maple Fingerboard.
Retail Price: £164.
Variations: Early bodies were of Honduras mahogany, later sycamore or obeche. Other finishes later available. Remarks: This was a good quality guitar with a sound to match, circuitry similar to that of a Fender 'Stratocaster', the 3-way selector giving one pick-up per setting. Grover machine heads were fitted as standard. This model proved to be a popular instrument, being aimed at a similar market to earlier Burns. Quite a number were produced and examples are still common today.
