Hi there guitar maniacs, I just bought a couple of relics of the 60s - genuine oldie guitars that have given wings to many dreams I am sure, and therefore have sentimental value, if not monetary

Can some one please help identify this one: manufacturer, year, where sold, anything. The guitar has no markings other than "steel reinforced neck" and "made in japan" on the back plate.




and the year of this well known Teisco Del Rey "Tulip" model:

the model is ET-200N do you know what the N stands for? It seems that Ns have a trem bar and others do not... From what I see in the web sites, it's circa 1968, but no one seems to know for sure.

The first one is a pretty nice example of a Teisco or Domino 'Fireball', both of which are copies of the Vox Mark III. The one uyou have has an interesting pickguard, which is not the usual style. Perhaps it isn't an original guard? In any event, that guitar was produced between 1967 and 1969, probably at the Matsumoku factory in Japan. The other one is a pretty common, but well-loved Teisco Del Ray, probably from 1969 or 1970.

Hmmm, thanks for the reply Alex - I researched the Domino or Teisco Fireball, but the guitar is a different model. That's why the pickguard is different. Domino also had a semi-hollow body, and probably more expenseive than my cheaper model.

Teisco, Domino and a number of other 'brand-names' were applied to the various Japanese-made guitars during the late-sixties, and guitars were being built at several factories in Japan. This was a time of much turmoil and corporate-trading, as electric guitars were being purchased everywhere by young folks who wanted to learn to play like a 'Rock-Star'. I believe that with the headstock, the pick-ups (especially the angled neck pick-up) and the switches on your guitar, it is very likely built at the Matsumoku factory around 1967 or 1968. It resembles my Domino Californian in many ways.

In any event, it is a very cool guitar!
