Post subject:  Found Guitar - Can't Identify
Hello,

I recently found a fairly generic looking guitar while cleaning my attic. It has no serial # or markings, aside from a "made in Japan" mark on the back.

It's in pretty rough shape, so I wanted to see if it was worth having repaired, or if it is just a cheap junker.

Any help figuring out what this is would be appreciated.

It's a 60's Japanese Teisco, probably branded Kingston. I had one like it a couple years ago. There were so many brand names. Teisco would offer their guitars to American and European music distributors and put different names on the headstocks. Let's say the distributor company owner had a son named Justin. You might see him selling Justin branded guitars. There were also smaller Japanese factories kicking out thousands of guitars back then, many of which never made it to the USA. Some have no names on them. Those guitars are rare, and going up in price.

It looks like your pickup screws are gone. You might be able to get them on Ebay, or from a good guitar tech with lots of spare parts.

I appreciate old Japanese guitars for what they are. They aren't going to play or sound like a Les Paul or Stratocaster, but they have their own vibe, and are great garage rock guitars (think Dan Auerbach), or even better, great slide guitars.

Looks like a fun restoration project. :geek: It'll never be worth much in financial terms, but like Bob says they have a certain charm that is very reminiscent of their era and are fun to play.

Had the exact same thing when I was young, my Ma' bought it
For me from the Sears catalog and it was branded Silvertone.
But it was made by Teisco no doubt.
