M = M-Tone Guitars

http://www.m-tone.com/index.html

M-tone is Matt Proctor’s one-man guitar workshop located in Portland, Oregon, USA. Matt had been a professional sculptor for over 15 years before he started making guitars. Through his sculptural work in steel, cast metals and wood, Matt developed a unique style that can be seen in M-tone guitars’ striking designs and surface treatments.

A longtime guitar player, Matt wanted a tough and stable instrument that played like a dream. He imagined a guitar expressive in tone and personality that was made with the materials he loved and respected: great sounding tone woods, steel, aluminum, bone and brass, but no plastic. The finish needed to be deep and intense without being gaudy or overly chromed. Finally, Matt made his own guitar, and then another and another and another and now M-tone guitars are available to a few other people as well.

M-tone currently produces two guitar models. The Stackpole has longer curved horns and the Dynamo has a more compact and streamlined shape. The Stackpole has pickguard-mounted controls and the Dynamo’s control cavity is on the back. Both have highly contoured bodies and good access to the upper frets. Both models are available as a Flatiron variation – with a chambered body and a hand-oxidized steel top.

Production of M-tone guitars is limited. In 2010, Matt will make eight Stackpoles and eight Dynamos, plus a very few custom models. When you acquire an M-tone, you will know that Matt personally made it by hand, starting with a pile of wood and a box of high-quality hardware.

O - O'Brien Guitars

Beautiful handmade acoustics with beautiful woods, inlays and veneers. He makes both flattop acoustic and classical guitars, including commissions.

"These are handmade, quality instruments built one at a time, entirely by Robert O’Brien in his workshop in Parker, Colorado."

Robert's biography is here: http://www.obrienguitars.com/?page_id=47

Here's a classical guitar maker, just for a change...

P = Prisloe Guitars

Thomas Prisloe - http://www.classicalguitarbuilder.com/n ... ilder.html
Quote:
Every nylon string guitar has a distinctive voice. But the best concert guitars share certain key attributes. This is what you'll discover in Prisloe guitars.

You will find that the notes play evenly over the entire range of each string.
  • The treble and bass strings are well balanced.
  • The tonal range is very broad. Musicians who play my guitars discover that changing tone color is easy to do with only slight changes in their angle of attack.
  • My guitars are resonant and respond quickly with little force from the fingers.
  • The guitars can be played softly while retaining clarity and sustain, which gives the player a broader dynamic range.
  • The instruments are powerful and easy to play.
  • The tone is clear, yet warm, with a well-defined edge and good separation of voices. Musicians consistently tell me that the overall voice of my custom classical guitar is beautiful.
