I know most people who frequent forums like ours are experienced guitarists, often with several decades of experience, but I thought you might be interested in this guitar left hand training aid for beginners.

The inventor (& patent-holder) is Kelvin Pratt, a British guitarist and guitar teacher for over 12 years. Kelvin invented the Space Trainer a couple of years ago, having recognised the common problems of bad hand position (typically over-gripping and flattening of the fingers) in almost all his students. The Space Trainer simply helps the left hand form the correct shape in the early stages of learning chords.

I have set up the http://guitar-gizmo.com website to help Kelvin to market the Space Trainer - I'd be grateful for any feedback on the website, or comments on the Space Trainer itself. It's not the most exciting guitar accessory in the world, but it does work! If you know any newbie guitarists or guitar teachers, spread the word!

I had a looksee and I believe it will help with it's intended purpose, the only drawback I see is the "clipping" it onto any of my guitars, it will surely rub the edges of the fretboard and bump at the frets when moving up and down the neck (if it moves) and that may be the killer in sales, if it damages my guitars fretboard or neck will you (the company) pay to fix it? Greg.

Hi Greg, it's supposed to be static as its intended mainly for learning/practicing open chords, so doesn't move up and down the neck - although you could clip it in higher fret positions if required.
I've clipped them on and off all of my guitars** to check whether it fits and there's been no damage at all. Also, remember that it's intended for beginners - say the first 6-10 weeks of learning, so I wouldn't expect people to be using them on your rare multi-thousand dollar guitars!

Although suitable to beginners of all ages, I guess this is really the main target audience....

O.K. , I was assuming it traveled up and down the neck, in the case it is static I could see where it would be helpful, Greg.

I can certainly learn from this but I am working more on how to improve my strumming skills. my brothers would always tease me as according to them I only have one strumming pattern and that I do not know to vary it based on the mode of the song.

I know what you feel man but that's okay. All of us went through that stage. Watch videos, tutorials or lessons bout proper strumming patters. All I could tell you bout strumming is it all DEPENDS on the beat or the tempo of that specific song. Hope it helps.
