For those of you who's guitar collections include high value or rare guitars, I found some safe companies that are offering guitar safes. I'd never heard of this before, but I guess it makes a lot of sense... you protect your guitars from dust and humidity in a display cabinet, you protect them from damage on the road in guitar cases or flight cases... but what about theft? Or fire? The obvious answer... a guitar safe!

I found a couple of companies offering guitar safes, althought I have to say I'm not too sure about the enviroment for the guitar - it may be protected from theft (and fire, in the case of the fire-proof safes), but the interior seems to be just divided and carpeted. For a precious vintage guitar I'd want to know a bit more about the materials used and have some sort of humidity control (or at least monitoring). They're obviously being produced by safe companies more used to gun safes and general purpose vaults, so I wouldn't take their expertise on guitar storage for granted!

Some examples below - typical prices seem to be around $2,000 for a modest safe (say 4-6 guitars), which is a pretty modest cost of your guitars are worth say $10,000+ each. More difficult to justify for the sort of $1,000 guitars I can afford!

This one for 12-15 guitars was supplied to Carlos Santana by guitars4stars.com (according to them!)

Thanks for the Guitar safes - security and fire-proof. While searching for Safes in NYC I found one site http://www.lackasafe.com/ which is providing more options for getting safes for long term at very low rates.

I've also read that the neck will be affected by adverse conditions.. I've not touched these instruments since i learned about truss rod adjustment, so i'm not sure, but they seem to have a higher action than i remember.. (though it could just be that i'm used to playing well setup instruments now) I've read that this can happen if left in bad conditions - that the action will always be higher than when you left it - how can this be??
