I was looking through an old guitar magazine and saw an advert for high quality wooden guitar stands called "The Rockin' Chair". They claim that they're suitable for long term use with top end and vintage acoustic guitars, won't cause damage, have "neutral ph" leather surface etc. Made of 3 pieces of chunky wood and very solid-looking.

Anyone know whether these Rocking Chair guitar stand are still available? Any good? How much?

I couldn't find anything by Googling, but obviously the term Rocking Chair (or even wooden rocking chair!) gives thousands of irrelevant results so it's difficult to find.

Alternatively, any other suggestions for good quality non-folding acoustic guitar stands - preferably made of wood, with leather trim rather than rubber or plastic foam?

Thanks,
Paul

Taylor do a nice wooden guitar stand, similar to how you describe the rocking chair one. They do a choice of either Maple or a dark wood, might be mahogany? They have rubber protection pads not leather, but I've never had any problem with mine marking guitars. But I don't keep guitars on the stand long term, I always put them away in the case.

They're not cheap! From what I remember I paid well over $100 for my maple stand, it may have been as much as $150. I remember thinking at the time that it was a lot, but I'd just bought a new Taylor guitar so it was "money no object"!

A wooden stand is much nicer for home or studio use where you don't need it to be portable.

Thanks Mel, the Taylor maple stand looks good.

They've got them at Musician's friend for £129.99
First produced for use by Taylor at trade shows, people began demanding this unique guitar stand and Taylor came through. Beautifully crafted in select solid maple, the stand features a laser-etched Taylor logo, rich satin finish, and rubber pads to protect your guitar's finish.

To answer my own original question, I went back & found the ad I was referring to - it was in a 2004 edition of Guitarist magazine (UK).

The Rockin' Chair stand was "Made in Birmingham" (again, that's Birmingham UK) and there was a website address http://www.therockinchair.co.uk . They had a full page advert, which doesn't come cheap!

The website no longer exists and I can't even find any reference to it or history in WayBack Machine (if you've never tried this, it's a cool useful tool that give archive screenshots of websites - see http://www.archive.org/web/web.php).

So I guess The Rockin' Chair must have been pretty short-lived. It's a pity, because it looked like a nice solid handcrafted wooden guitar stand... and without a brand association like the Taylor stand.
