Hi Guys,

it's been interesting to see the various ideas on this forum about guitar storage and display cabinets - from the money-no-object craftsman built solid wood masterpieces to the Verithin guy's DIY coathanger guitar hangers to keep guitars in a wardrobe.

So I did some more Googling and found this great decription of a DIY guitar cabinet project that falls somewhere between the two. :D
http://buildyourguitar.com/resources/bu ... abinet.pdf

Although he's built the cabinet himself, it would be quite an easy task to buy a modestly-priced general display cabinet and modify it. I was particul;arly interested to see that he made his own guitar hangers out of wood, including a "foot" to support his Martin D-28 acoustic.

The result is obviously not in the same league as some proffessional ones mentioned in the forum, but it looks like a good comprimise to me.

The builder finishes by saying "The finished product makes a beautiful display cabinet and a great storage place, keeping the instruments safe but within easy reach, and the
bottom storage area is great for strings, polish, sheet music, etc. Happy
building."

I'm off to do some measuring!

Looks interesting - nice to see someone who's gone down the "build it yourself" route.

This is the sort of display cabinet I'd like:

This is from Case Sensitive Corporation in West Hartford, Connecticut USA. I can't find any UK based guitar cabinet makers. :( (but then again I probably couldn't afford them anyway! )

I'm going to start looking for a 'regular' general-purpose display case that I can adapt for guitars. Ziggy, let us know if you decide to build your own cabinet, we'd love to see it! ;)

It seems like there's a few of us with the same ideas!

What I want is a good-looking display cabinet for 4-6 guitars, that doesn't cost more than the guitars are worth.

I've been thinking for some time about building my own , but have never got around to it. I need some inspiration! There's lots of good ideas around... I don't have time to build from scratch (although there was a time when I did such things), but the idea of buying a wardrobe or display cabinet and adapting it appeals to me. If anyone finds a suitable cabinet as a starting point, please let me know. 8-)

Yeah, guitars are supposed to be displayed. We love the music it creates and so it is only deserving to be displayed in a nice looking cabinets. I am just wondering if I can replace the glass with other see-through material.
