OK guys, I've been talking about this on-and-off for a while, but I've finally decided on a storage solution for my guitars and gear.

I've looked at various options...

1) Hang the guitars on the wall.
Pros: simple, cheap, looks cool
Cons: guitars exposed, get dusty, potential accidental damage

2) Custom glass guitar display cabinet.
Pros: Looks great, keeps guitars safe but accessible
Cons: Expensive. Nowhere appropriate in the house

3) DIY glass guitar display cabinet.
Pros: Looks good, keeps guitars safe but accessible, not too expensive
Cons: Nowhere appropriate in the house & display cabinets tend to be small

4) DIY fitted-out "guitar wardrobe".
Pros: Keeps guitars safe but accessible, not too expensive, lots of storage space for equiment
Cons: Guitars not visible when doors closed. :|

So. I've finally decided on 4).

I've bought a very large wardrobe with enormous sliding mirror doors. This was delivered today, in flat-pack form. It's tall, strong and with flexible shelving and is in two sections.

The plan is to fit out one section with 5 top-mounting String Swing guitar hangers. These are known as Multi Angle Display Case Hangers , Stock #: BCC28R&L. I've ordered them direct from from String Swing in the US and expect delivery some time next week. Thanks to Anne at String Swing for help with ordering.
(Some String Swing products are available in UK/Europe via retailers, but I couldn't find a source for the top mounting ones, which are obviously a bit more unusual than wall mounting guitar hangers). https://www.stringswing.com/products/pr ... _category=

The hangers will fit directly to the inside of the top of the wardrobes, keeping the guitars high up, and the bottom of the wardrobe will be used for amp, accessories and guitar book storage. THe second wardrobe section will be used for general household stuff, but gives me the option of expanding the guitar storage in the future should I need to!

First step is to assemble my wardrobe. :)

Watch this space...

Sounds cool!!! 8-) I keep my guitars in their cases, but it would be great to have a dedicated storage place for them

Haha... very funny.

The wardrobe's now fully assembled without too many bits left over, including hanging very heavy sliding mirror doors. It looks pretty much 'as advertised':-

Eagerly awaiting arrival of the guitar hangers to turn it from a wardrobe into a guitar storage cabinet. :)

How many guitars do you reckon will fit in Paul?

Not 100% sure until I get the hangers, but I'm aiming for 5 in one wardrobe section, giving space to have them angled... could probably make it 6 if they were hung parallel to the cupboard ends. I've also ordered a regular low profile wall hanger so might add that (fixed inside wardrobe) if there's space. If not, I'll just hang it on the end of the wardrobe (outside) or on the wall.

Obviously I've then got space for another 5 (or 6) in the other wardrobe section should the need arise!

You'll soon fill that up Paul, you've got about 9 or 10 listed in your sig. Or do you, like me, have a couple on the stands to pick up and play?

The plan is just to store the electric guitars in the guitar wardrobe... I tend to keep the Takamine out downstairs on a hanger. The old Minorca classical just knocks around for visiting kids to play (I keep it for sentimental reasons... my first guitar) and the travel guitar is very small anyway (full size neck, very small body), so might just live on the shelf with the electrics, but not get hung up. I was hoping to get the hangers this week so I can sort it all out at the weekend, but no sign yet.
