Yes, they do pivot, but in a fairly crude way. The U-shaped cradle part simply screws into the bracket... I guess it's more Y-shaped really, with the tail of the "Y" being threaded. There is a steel washer plus felt washer arrangement so that when the cradle is screwed all the way in it doesn't seize up; there is some flexibility in it and the cradle can pivot on the thread. Hope that makes sense; I'll post some close-up pictures later, to show the arrangement in detail.

OK, job done. :D

I'm very pleased with the end result, it's just what I wanted.

More details at a later time, but for now, here's some photos... (sorry not great quality pics, poor light too much of a rush!)

Nice job Paul, looks great. 8-)

I hope the top of your wardrobe is strong! Are the hangers bolted thru? I'd worry about my guitars being hung from just two woodscrews.... OK for semi-acoustics like your Hofner, but the Deacon and the Strat must weigh plenty, is the wood top strong enough?

I can't tell from your pics, is the closet fitted (built-into the walls) or free-standing? It would be good to see the whole unit when you take more photos.

Are you pleased with the end result? This project seems to have been brewing for months...

Thanks BM, yes I'm very pleased with it, it's turned out just how I wanted.

The top mounted guitar hangers are screwed not bolted, but I put another piece of chipboard on the top and screwed through both, so a total of 1" thick wood. I was still nervous when I hung the first guitar! But they seem fine. I will keep checking though, in case the top starts to sag. I don't think there's any chance of the screws pulling out, but I wonder whether the weight will cause the wood to bend over time as there's quite a lot of weight there. I don't think it will be a problem, but I will keep an eye on it.

The wardrobe is free-standing, with large sliding mirror doors; I will post some full-length photos sometime, I'd meant to do it by now but have been busy... however, I did (bizarrely) happen to take a pohto of the screws when I was doing fixing them!

I just remembered I took more photos of the whole thing but forgot to post them :?

Access to a power socket inside the guitar storage end means I can leave my practice amp plugged in ready to go....

When closed, it's just a normal wardrobe...

Note guitar case stored on top... but ceiling clearance space is tighter than I thought, so that's the only case that fits!

I rather had a guitar rack instead. I will put it at the corner of my room with my amp beside it. Or i just put it beside my bed so i will lay beside my guitar. I know that sound absurd.

Hi bloxu, that's fine when you've got one guitar, but gets more tricky when you get two, three.... five, ten...
I've got ten (or so) guitars, so it's great to have a permanent home for 5 of them, safely closed away in their special wardrobe but instantly accessible. ;) But my main playing/gigging guitar (the Strat Pus) generally lives either in its case or on a stand.
