So I ordered one of these last night:

I contacted them and they told me it is for angled bridges like mine so here's hoping it works out when it gets here. No more painting for a week maybe, we're having non-stop rain for about a week straight :(

Alright, question time. I need opinions on the finish for the body. I was originally planning this:
headstock front and back - paint+clear
neck - tung oil
body - tv yellow paint+clear

But seeing how finicky it was being about accepting the paint on the back of the head I'm not sure I want to go that route afterall. It could have been the weather but I would rather not risk it, instead of going with yellow for the body I was thinking of just oiling the entire neck-body together to give it a nice dark-brown natural finish.
There's a picture of this on the first page. To be honest I'm leaning much more towards this idea now, I think it could be really nice as a natural finish, while retaining that patch of yellow on the back of the head as a memorial of sorts to it's original colour.

Anyways, please everyone let me know your thoughts on what you think would be the best looking finish for the body. Thanks :)

Not a fan of natural, transparent finishes, I would stick with the yellow---Image

+1

I have to agree with Geoff, it would be a shame to spoil such a fine old guitar by just oiling it... I can see the temptation of going for the easy option, but I think the outcome will be disappointing. So I'd review your painting method, wait for good weather and carry on painting. It'll be worth it in the end!

btw, the bridge looks cool. 8-) Hope it works out OK.

Alright, thanks for the input. Unfortunately out of everyone I've asked its right at about 50/50 minus my vote for the natural :? I do like the yellow but this things got some very nice grain that would look incredible when enhanced. We'll see how it goes when the weather evens out again.

So the bridge got here yesterday, but I couldn't post because I couldn't log in for some reason. Anyways it needed a bit of grinding down on the bottom to get it to fit the american threaded studs which is a little annoying at this point. It fits on both studs individually but now I need to shave off less than maybe 1/16" to get it to mount on the guitar.

No batteries in my camera at the moment either, used them up fishing the other night :D

Also just buffed the clear coat on the headstock and glued in the bushings, it's coming along nicely now. Will get pictures up when i get around to finding more batteries.

Hi, good to see pictures of progress - the headstock looks great.

So, are you going for the oiled finish? The body looks a little rough... you'll need a finer finish if you want your oiling to look good. I'd recommend sanding with finer and finer grades of sandpaper - use every grade available and work your way down. If using 'wet and dry' then use it wet with white spirit, NOT water as this will lift the grain. Good luck! And FWIW, I still think you should paint it! ;) Keep on posting pics, whatever you do with it, it's nice to see step-by-step progress. :)

Yeah, yeah I'll think about the paint  before I do anything to it I will give it a nice smoothing down then clean the dust off really well, it's actually very smooth but my camera sucks big time and brings out the shadows from holes and such much more than are actually there :) once this crappy weather goes away again the neck will start to get oiled since 100% sure getting an oil finish :D
